Position Requirements ( i.e. degree, experience, etc.):

  • Master of Science in Forestry or related field; Candidates with a bachelor’s degree will be considered
  • Understanding of forestry operational tasks, forest growth and management, timber sales, working with clients, field data collection and data management
  • Basic understanding of experimental design and statistics
  • Solid verbal and written communication skills
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a larger team
  • High level of integrity and confidentiality
  • Experience with Microsoft Office, Access, ArcView, R, iPad, GIS
  • Pesticide license is a plus
  • Ample prescribed fire experience or certifications is a plus
  • Registered foreter licensure or aspirations, wildlife biologist or a combination of both is preferred

Position Duties:

Will work as part of a larger overall research and operations field team focusing on Southeastern US forest silviculture, timber asset management, tree improvement, sustainability, wildlife habitat research and operations work. The primary focus of this position is to coordinate the work tasks for DDFSI. This includes planning considerations, technician scheduling, task execution and safety and work quality auditing. Work tasks to be coordinated include timber inventory, timber marking, timber sale preparation, timber harvest inspections, prescribed burning, boundary line maintenance, plantation establishment oversight, management plan preparation, research study establishment, study maintenance, study measurement, study data cleaning, cone harvest, tree breeding among others.

Travel and Work Conditions:

Much of the work is outdoors in varying weather conditions. The job includes travel and occasional weekend work. This position is generally a 45-50 hour/week assignment.
