Derek Dougherty

Derek Dougherty

Derek Dougherty is President of Dougherty & Dougherty Forestry Services, Inc.   Derek is a Registered Forester in many US states.  Derek has consulted on and managed operations for both pine and hardwood plantation projects and naturally regenerated pine and hardwood silviculture systems across the Southeast US since 1993.  DDFSI has completed many large timber inventory projects, 20,000 to 100,000+ acres, over this tenure.


Derek is a licensed real estate agent in GA, SC and NC and specializes in the brokerage and investment of timberland, both for private investors and pooled capital investments.

 

Derek is a research forester with a PhD in Forest Management obtained from the University of Georgia.  Ongoing cooperative research is completed through the Forest Owners Research and Technology Exchange (FORTE) which Derek founded and manages as Director.  FORTE research focuses heavily on pine genetics, initial planting density assignment, deployment regimes and supporting silviculture methods.  Proprietary research is conducted through DDFSI's Center of Forestry Research and Applied Management.  


Derek works on genetic improvement and seed production of loblolly pine through GenTreeXT LLC and longleaf pine through Windy Ridge Longleaf LLC. 


Derek is a member of Society of American Foresters and the Forest Landowners Association. Derek is Past-President of the Forest Landowners Association. Derek is an accomplished writer and speaker on forest management in the southeastern United States.

Julie Dougherty

Julie Dougherty

Julie is co-owner of Dougherty & Dougherty Forestry & Progressive Realty Services and has served as Vice President of Dougherty & Dougherty Forestry since 1997. She is in charge of business operations to include staff management, customer service, marketing/advertising, and bookkeeping. Julie earned a Bachelor of Business from the University of Georgia. She is an active real estate broker with licenses in both Georgia and North Carolina. She is also the proud mother of two wonderful children.
